A DBMS architecture allows dividing the database system into individual components that can be independently modified, changed, replaced, and altered. It also helps to understand the components of a database. A Database stores critical information and helps access data quickly and securely. A simple one tier architecture example would be anytime you install a Database in your system and access it to practice SQL queries.

Definition: It is a client server architecture based on 2-Tier, which implies that the Clients and Server are on two different machines: such that the application layer is on the clients side and the database lies on the Server side. There are two layers i. Explanation: In 2-Tier Client Server Architecture, client sends a request to the server through the client machine, as a result a response is sent back to the client machine after the server performs the required task. However, there is a difference between the traditional and modern 2-Tier Client Server Architecture. Previously, the client machine has the application layer which use to slow down the clients machine. Now, in the modern 2-Tier Client Server Architecture, the server holds the application layers along with the database layer for the reason that the server is a powerful processing machine with large disk space. Therefore, it reduces the burden over the clients machine.

In software engineering , multitier architecture often referred to as n -tier architecture or multilayered architecture is a client—server architecture in which presentation, application processing and data management functions are physically separated. The most widespread use of multitier architecture is the three-tier architecture. N -tier application architecture provides a model by which developers can create flexible and reusable applications. By segregating an application into tiers, developers acquire the option of modifying or adding a specific layer, instead of reworking the entire application. A three-tier architecture is typically composed of a presentation tier, a domain logic tier, and a data storage tier. While the concepts of layer and tier are often used interchangeably, one fairly common point of view is that there is indeed a difference.


Most of the Net Applications use the Client Server architecture. These terms refer to the two processes or two applications which will be communicating with.
