Mobile computing facilitates data transmission without needing to be connected to a fixed physical link. Mobile voice communication is widely established throughout the world and the number of subscribers to various cellular networks has increased considerably over the last few years. An extension of this technology is the ability to send and receive data across these cellular networks. Mobile data communication has become a very important and rapidly evolving technology as it allows users to transmit data from remote locations to other remote or fixed locations. This proves to be the solution to the biggest problem for business people on the move.

Due to the wide usage of mobile devices and variety of applications, mobile cloud computing becomes a necessary part for mobile devices, due to reliability and portability as data processing and storage take place outside of the mobile. It is useful in a sense to save battery and computation power of mobile devices which is a serious issue in high power mobile devices. Mobile cloud computing provide mobile users a service where they can use cloud services on their mobiles and perform computations. As mobile Cloud computing is still in early stage of development, it is useful to build a thorough understanding about existing models and future trends.

Mobile wireless systems present a major computer systems design challenge. High performance for multimedia tasks is required while preserving battery life. Energy-aware lossless data compression examines the tradeoffs between wireless transmission energy and the local compute energy needed to perform data compression. If a data compressor can use less than ALU operations to shrink a file by a single bit, energy will be saved. However, we have found cases in which common compressors spend more energy to compress a file than they save by reducing wireless transfers.

New paradigms in wireless access and spectrum markets are being formed. This is accelerated even further by the advances in the dynamic spectrum access. The cognitive radio network CRN technology empowers devices with new degrees of flexibility, enabling new network architectures, access methods, and services, enriching the roles of service providers, and opening new opportunities for businesses cases. Unlike the traditional cellular-based markets, these spectrum markets have larger sizes, are more heterogeneous, and can offer an improved set of services. As wireless access and use increase, users are differentiated even more by their usage and data-rate requirement profile.

Mobile computing involves mobile communication, mobile hardware, and mobile software. Communication issues include ad hoc networks and infrastructure networks as well as communication properties, protocols , data formats, and concrete technologies.
